Mel
& Cath, proprietors of Great Western Hotel;
"Keedie
used to run around the Great Western Hotel when she was only 6
years of age and kept shouting "I want to work in this
hotel" and this she eventually did.
In 1988 we hired Keedie's dad Gary Babb as our building
contractor and that is where the start of our friendship with
the Babb family began. Keedie and her family used to visit the
hotel regularly and Keedie was always the cheerful and loud one,
always the achiever wanting to work at the hotel.
In 1991, when Keedie was 9 years old, she began singing at the
hotel with her younger sister Nadine aged 8.
In 1993 the girls chose a name for their act: KN.21 which was K
for Keedie and N for Nadine and the 21 being their combined
ages: Keedie 11, Nadine 10.
When Keedie turned 15 years old both she and her sister Nadine
commenced work as waitresses besides performing at the hotel in
the evenings.
We always remembered Keedie to be very positive and as a
waitress she always had a wide smile and was extremely
pleasant. Whilst she was singing at the hotel one evening Mel told
Keedie's dad Gary that she will be the next Elaine Paige and to
keep her hopes high and never give up".
Keedie
