Vissi
d’Arte from Puccini’s “Tosca” is the aria Tosca sings just
prior to giving in to the evil police chief, Scarpia’s deal. This
being, that she gives herself to Scarpia, in return for him sparing
her lovers life. Scarpia double crosses Tosca, and carries out the
execution regardless. Tosca devastated by his treachery, kills Scarpia
and then grief stricken and pursued by Scarpia’s agents, throws
herself out of the window. |
