singer Keedie Babb wowed iconic
singing legend Tina Turner when she performed before her at a one-off
charity gig.
And the 24-year-old, from Marldon, was 'sold' for a whopping £155,000
at the event.
The singer said the concert, Tina's first live appearance in seven years
was simply 'mind-blowing'.
In a charity auction on the night, two incredible bids of £80,000 and
£75,000 were made for Keedie by wealthy businessmen wanting her to sing
at two private events.
Keedie was invited to join the diva for her first live appearance in
seven years on Friday.
The concert, called The Bedrock Ball, was in aid of the charity Caudwell
Children. Held at the Natural History Museum, London.
Caudwell Children is a
British non-profit which focuses on donations to special children for
medical treatment, therapy, specialized equipment, and dying-wish
holidays. The charity has been working towards its goals since 1999 and
has made over 2,000 donations to families with disabled children.
Tickets were selling for a minimum donation of £10,000 each and red
carpet arrivals included Top Gear presenter Richard Hammond, who led the
proceedings, celebrity David Gest and Tara Palmer-Tompkinson.
The Bedrock Ball concert raised over £2 million!!
Keedie said: "It was probably one of the most amazing nights I have
ever seen. It was mind-blowing. I have never seen anything like it.
There was so many celebrities there."
The former Whiterock Primary pupil sang four songs: O Mio Babbino Caro,
Time to Say Goodbye, Il Mio Cuore Va, which means titanic in Italian,
and the aria Nessun Dorma.
Keedie added: "When I performed I had a standing ovation and Tina's
bouncer told me she had been watching me and had said I was phenomenal.
It was really nerve-wracking."
Guests enjoyed a five-course meal before Tina Turner lit up the stage
with a performance of such classics as What's Love Got to do With it and
Private Dancer.
Keedie added: "When Tina walked down the stairs, she looked about
35 years old. Her legs are just amazing and she looked so beautiful. You
would still think she is a teenager, the way she moves on the
stage."
Keedie first shot to fame locally after winning Stairway to the Stars
before being spotted by Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber.
Her duet with former Blue star Duncan James, I Believe My Heart, reached
number two in the charts in October 2004.
Bigger and better prospects are still on the horizon for the Bay
starlet, who revealed she's on the verge of signing for a big record
label in the States.
She said: "People think I've been quiet for the past year but I've
been really busy working on this big deal with an American record
company.
"It's all really quite amazing how it's all coming together now.
I've been over to America about 20 times in the past year and my music's
been going down quite phenomenally."
An appearance on the Oprah Winfrey Show is also on the horizon thanks to
a collaboration with world-famous songwriter Diane Warren, who is
penning a song for Keedie to sing on a forthcoming album.
Diane is responsible for hits such as Because You Loved Me, Un-break My
Heart and How Do I Live. |
